On Upgrades

So I've decided to upgrade [or downgrade as some may say] to a new DSLR. I truly love my Fuji S2 and it's performed wonderfully these past few years but it's an old DSLR. The camera came out in 2002 and so many photographers questioned me on why I was using such an old camera. Not that I ever cared what anyone ever thought.
Due to it's age, it has many limitations: sucks at low lighting, focusing is slow, the buffer runs like a slug; not to mention how heavy and clunky the body is.

So I got myself a Nikon D40x.

Yes I know its a "consumer" camera. But after hours of research [might I add the amazing deal I got it on] I really wanted a lightweight, smaller camera and settled on the D40x.
It's kinda odd, really. The only DSLRs I've ever used have been the Nikon and Fuji line of pro digital cameras. I started on the Nikon D1 [oh the stories I could tell about that camera!] moving down the line to a D1H, D1X, D2, etc. But these cameras are heavy and bulky and a pain in the ass to lug around.

So for the past week I've been playing around with my new camera. And I'm 50/50 on it. It takes good pictures, it really does! The buffer is quick and the metering is on target. But the f'in camera's auto focus only works on the newer AF-S lenses! And those are pricey! And it does all this weird consumer things like constantly reminding me my subject is too dark.

All in all: I have no idea what to do. Do I re-sell it and say fuck it and finance myself a D2X [D3 and D300 are way outta my league price range]? Or do I made the most outta my goofy D40x? I should have done my homework better, but oh well. That's what you get when you are Kelly.

But other then buying cameras, Polaroid film, searching for jobs and selling vintage shit, I haven't been doing much. I'm enjoying my Polaroid 680 way too much and still battling over that damn Yashica. Yesterday I also failed, my sixth year in a row, in capturing fourth of July fireworks. God do I suck!

But I'm gunna shut up for now, get back to work! Enjoy this month's features, stop by and visit my club and I'll see y'all in August!

I know how you feel... I just upgraded myself from a D60 to the D90 and I'm soo happy with the D90! It has the sensor of the D300 but is lighter and cheaper. Picture quality should be the same as the D300. I love it! :)

I've heard a lot of good thing on the D90! That was the other camera I was considering, but the price was right on the D40x. I've seen some A-mazing shot done on the D90.

I can only encourage you to get a good price on one :) What about the D80, shouldn't it be cheaper now that the D90 came out? Quality-wise it should be about the same if I'm correctly informed...
:iconkel-----bel:
I thought about the D80, but all these cameras seem the same to me. And I've been a photographer for 10 years! :faint: I might play around with the D40x and if it seems to be more of a hassle [manual focus doesn't bother me] then I will suck it up and get the D2X

that's the spirit :) I think you're such a terrific photographer you could take great pictures with a one-way camera, so way to go!

 wow! Thank you so much!

I'm a Canon user so uhhh...Oh God idk :ohnoes:
If my camera was telling me what to do I would hit it. No back talking allowed, I'm the artist >:I

So ya...do whatever you want to do, if the D40x bothers you constantly, then save yourself a stress-induced heart attack and get the D2X :]

LOL! Hahaaaa! Yea, I'm not thinking I need to suck it up and go with the big guns. I shoot with Canon, but 10 years of Nikon shit, yea I'm sticking with Nikon.
