Winter is and has always been an ugly time of year--especially when you live in the Great Lakes region. Normally I try to keep my head up and think positive. I try to beat the winter blues by thinking of the "positives" of the cold.
But all my positive thinking has failed me this winter.
Why. Because it fucking cold. Not cold, fucking cold. Big difference. Today marks the first day in about six weeks that it's above freezing. And the snow we've been getting is an absurd amount. The snow on every corner of my street is piled up ten plus feet high making casual driving more of a nuisance. And the parking lots of grocery stores and major plazas have snow mountains that soar twenty feet and counting.
I've tried to use the cold, snowy weather to my advantage. I've tried many times photographic it and using all those photojournalist skills I've learn in college. To no avail, of course. My digital camera literally froze to a point where it refused to work in these conditions. I did come across a Cosina CX-2 in my travels. I went out and shot with it two rolls of film in the freezing weather one day, but I had to sell it due to my broke state. I did however buy a L-CA camera a few weeks ago and that has spurred me to bundle up and shoot.
And the funny thing is I know there are parts of the world who have much worst winters than I face. Like in Canada. I had a co-worker from Quebec, who told me about the hideous winters they faced. So I'd like to hear from anyone who is also having a ugly winter, especially my neighbors up north.
